Yes! I was explaining to a group of teachers and a trainee child psychologist recently that autistic people have a different attitude to gender than neurotypicals: we think of ourselves as “me” first and layer on things like gender afterwards. I’ve spoken to several autistic adults who remember being taken aback the first few times they were were referred to as a man or a woman.

I distinctly remember a mother telling her daughter to, “Stay out of the man’s way, darling” and thinking, “Oh, is that how you see me?”
