I’m not saying we should cover up. Quite the opposite. We should add to the stories of these historical figures to get a better understanding of them and the people they harmed.

If we cancel people we cancel their whole story and those of the people they harmed. That would be the worst cover up of all.

So tell Jefferson’s story. Make people see how he was lauded as a hero, and then tell people of his hypocrisy and predation because that that tells a much bigger story about white and black USA, about slavery, about power and disadvantage.
