Ah yes, the joys of moving to, or returning to, Australia.
One school friend of mine had been a private banker in London. He’d moved there from Australia, built his own client base and worked it for nearly a decade. Then he and his wife had children and decided they wanted to be closer to family.
He moved to Brisbane and approached the local branch of the international bank where he’d worked to see if he could build up a private client business for them in there. Their response, “But you don’t have any Brisbane experience.” So he went to their competitors, who said the same thing.
He was so disillusioned by the experience that he took himself down to Bond University and retrained in logistics.
